Beyond Nha Trang’s busy beaches lies a quieter world shaped by wooden boats, floating fish farms and generations of seafaring knowledge. This two-day journey takes you into that world, replacing conventional island hopping with genuine encounters in Bich Dam. This is one of the bay’s remote fishing communities.
Especially, it is designed for travellers seeking more meaningful Nha Trang Tours. So, this experience invites you to fish beside local residents, prepare seafood in a family kitchen. As well as observing the daily rhythm of island life. You will explore the village on foot, learn how fishermen read the wind and tide. And staying overnight in simple community accommodation.
Note, there is no promise of a large catch—fishing always depends on nature. What the tour does offer is something more memorable: time on the water, honest conversations. As well as an evening when the bay grows quiet after the day boats have departed.
Day 1: Nha Trang – Bich Dam Fishing Village – Fishing with Locals
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
In the morning, our tour guide will meet you at your hotel in central Nha Trang before transferring to the harbour. After a safety briefing, you will board a licensed boat and leave the city skyline behind as you cross the sheltered waters of Nha Trang Bay.
The approach to Bich Dam reveals a side of the bay that many visitors never see. Fishing boats rest near floating rafts, nets dry beside modest houses, and daily routines still follow the tide rather than a tourist timetable.
After landing, you will walk with your local host through the village lanes and harbour area. Along the way, you will learn how families earn a living from coastal fishing and small-scale aquaculture. Depending on local permission and current operations, you may visit a floating raft to see how fish or shellfish are cared for.
A Fisherman’s Lunch
Next, you will enjoy lunch at the homestay or in a local family home. In addition, the menu may include steamed fish, squid, vegetables, soup and rice. It depends on the morning market and seasonal catch. Seafood is prepared simply, allowing its natural flavour to remain the focus.
After having lunch, you will check in and rest during the warmest part of the day. Island accommodation is clean and welcoming but intentionally simple. Travellers should expect local comfort rather than resort facilities.
Afternoon Eco-Fishing Experience
Later, you will accompany a resident fisherman onto the bay in a small local boat. Your host will demonstrate how to:
- Prepare bait and set up a traditional handline.
- Choose a fishing position according to the current and wind.
- Handle fish safely and release undersized catches.
- Keep fishing lines, hooks and plastic waste out of the sea.
Try handline fishing under close guidance while listening to stories about changing seasons and life on the water. The activity is unhurried and nobody can guarantee you’ll catch a lot of fish.
Later, you will return to the village as the sunlight softens. Note, late afternoon usually offers more comfortable temperatures and warm light for photographing boats, floating farms and the shoreline. Please ask before taking close-up photographs of residents.
Island Dinner and Optional Night Fishing
In the evening, you will join your hosts in preparing dinner. If the day’s catch is suitable, we may grill, steam them with ginger or cooking them in a sour Vietnamese fish soup. Note, for vegetarian and non-seafood dishes can be arranged with advance notice.
When the weather and tide are favourable, you should head out for an optional evening handline or squid-fishing session. From here, you can watch the lights of fishing boats shimmer across the dark bay. As well as learning why local crews use lamps to attract squid. If the sea becomes rough or visibility is poor, this activity will be replaced by a relaxed village evening with your hosts.
Overnight at a homestay in Bich Dam.
Day 2: Dawn Harbor Life – Village Walk – Nha Trang
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
You should wake up early to see the harbour before the village fully stirs. With small boats may be returning with fish, squid or other seafood, while residents sort equipment and prepare for another day at sea.
Moreover, this is one of the tour’s finest photography periods. The light is gentle, the harbor is active, and temperatures are cooler. You should wear shoes with a good grip because piers and stone paths can be damp in the morning.
Then, you will return to the homestay for breakfast. Which may include noodles, bánh mì, eggs, seasonal fruit, tea or Vietnamese coffee.
Exploring Island Life on Foot
After having breakfast, you will follow our tour guide on a leisurely walk around the community and surrounding landscape. Rather than rushing between attractions, the morning here is a chance for observing the details that define island life. From weathered boats, household gardens, fishing tools to family shrines and views across the bay.
Depending on weather, trail conditions and the group’s ability, the walk may continue toward a higher viewpoint or a quiet section of coastline. Besides, our tour guide will choose the safest route available on the day.
You may then take part in a short community activity, such as:
- Helping mend or arrange fishing nets.
- Learning how seafood is cleaned and prepared.
- Making a simple dipping sauce with your host.
- Collecting litter along a village path or shoreline.
- Learning useful Vietnamese phrases connected with fishing and food.
These activities depend on the hosts’ daily work. They are intended as respectful participation, not staged performances.
Farewell Lunch and Return to Nha Trang
You will share a final home-style lunch with the island family. You also take time to thank your hosts before walking back to the pier and boarding the return boat.
The journey ends with a transfer from the harbour to your hotel in central Nha Trang in the afternoon.
