Sapa Community Homestay & Rice-Terrace Tour – 2 Days

Leave the busy streets of Sapa behind and walk into the spectacular landscapes of Muong Hoa Valley on this two-day community adventure. It is suitable for travellers who seeking authentic Sapa Eco Tours, the journey follows mountain paths through Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai, Ta Van and Giang Ta Chai villages. Where Black Hmong, Giay and Red Dao communities maintain distinctive traditions and close connections with the land.

Moreover, you will walk beside centuries-old rice terraces, cross small streams. As well as learning local families cultivate rice on steep mountain slopes. Along the way, our local tour guide will introduce traditional houses, seasonal crops, textile techniques and everyday village life. In Ta Van, you will spend the night at a family-run homestay, share home-cooked dishes made with regional ingredients. And experiencing the peaceful rhythm of the valley after day-trippers have departed.

This low-impact journey supports local guides, family businesses and community accommodation. In addition, with small groups, refillable water bottles and responsible walking practices. So, this tour helps reduce pressure on the fragile mountain environment while creating meaningful exchanges with your hosts.

Tours Itinerary

Day 01

: Sapa – Y Linh Ho – Lao Chai – Ta Van Village

Meals: Lunch and Dinner | Accommodation: Community Homestay in Ta Van

You will meet our local guide in Sapa Town in the morning for a short introduction to the route, village etiquette and responsible trekking practices. Note, you should carry only what you need for one night, as a lighter backpack will make the descents into Muong Hoa Valley more comfortable.

Firstly, you will begin your trek along a mountain trail overlooking the valley. As the town gradually disappears behind you, the landscape opens onto terraced fields, small farmhouses and the Hoang Lien mountain range. In addition, our guide will explain how generations of local farmers have shaped the hillsides into productive rice terraces while carefully managing water from mountain streams.

Next, you will continue traveling downhill to Y Linh Ho, a Black Hmong village surrounded by fields and forested slopes. The trail may be rocky or muddy depending on the weather. Here, you can walk slowly, use the firm edges of the path and avoid stepping onto planted terraces or irrigation banks.

From Y Linh Ho, you will follow the valley towards Lao Chai Village. Besides, you can stop at scenic viewpoints to observe the patterns of the rice terraces and learn about seasonal farming activities. Depending on the time of year, you may see farmers preparing the soil, transplanting seedlings or harvesting ripe rice by hand.

Then, you will enjoy lunch at a locally operated restaurant or village home. The meal features simple regional dishes prepared with seasonal vegetables and locally available ingredients. Moreover, vegetarian meals can be arranged in advance.

After enjoying lunch, you will continue traveling along village lanes and rice-field paths towards Ta Van, home to Giay and Hmong communities. Along the way, our tour guide may introduce plants used for food, herbal remedies or natural dyes. If a family workshop is open, you can also observe traditional textile production and indigo dyeing. Please ask before photographing residents, especially children or people working inside their homes.

Afterward, you will arrive at a family-run homestay in Ta Van in the late afternoon. After checking in, you will take time to rest or walk quietly around the village with your host. Rather than bringing disposable gifts for children, travellers are encouraged to support the community by purchasing handicrafts directly from their makers. Or contributing through recognised local initiatives.

In the evening, you will join your hosts for a home-cooked dinner. Seasonal vegetables, tofu, herbs and locally raised meat may be served according to household availability. Especially, this is a relaxed opportunity to learn about family life, village customs and the changing relationship between agriculture and tourism in Sapa.

Later, you will stay overnight at the community homestay. Facilities are clean but simple and sounds from farm animals. Or village activity is part of the authentic rural experience.

Estimated trekking distance: 11–13 kilometres
Estimated trekking time: 5–6 hours, including stops

Day 02

Ta Van – Bamboo Woodland – Giang Ta Chai – Sapa

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

In the morning, you will wake up to the calm atmosphere of Muong Hoa Valley and enjoy breakfast at the homestay. Next, you will refill your water bottle before departure and check that no personal waste has been left behind.

Then, you will begin the second day with a walk through Ta Van’s farmland. In the early morning, you may see villagers tending vegetable gardens, feeding livestock or preparing for work in the fields. Besides, our tour guide will help interpret these daily activities respectfully without interrupting local routines.

Afterward, you will continue traveling towards a section of bamboo woodland. The shaded trail provides a change from the open rice terraces and reveals another side of Sapa’s mountain ecosystem. During wet weather, exposed roots and stone steps can be slippery. Moreover, shoes with good grip are strongly recommended, and trekking poles can be useful for travellers who need additional support.

You will follow the trail towards Giang Ta Chai, a village associated with the Red Dao community. Depending on local conditions and the selected route, you will stop near a stream or waterfall surrounded by dense vegetation. Here, swimming is not recommended during periods of strong current, and travellers should always follow the guide’s safety advice.

In addition, you will spend time learning about Red Dao culture, traditional clothing and the community’s use of forest plants. Cultural encounters depend on residents’ daily schedules, so activities are kept flexible and never staged at the expense of local privacy.

In the noon, you will enjoy lunch at a village restaurant or community home before completing the final section of the trek. A shared vehicle will collect the group from an accessible meeting point and return to Sapa Town in the afternoon.

The tour ends in Sapa with memorable views of the rice terraces and a deeper understanding of the communities that continue to care for this remarkable mountain landscape.

Estimated trekking distance: 9–11 kilometres
Estimated trekking time: 4–5 hours, including stops

  • Trek through the rice terraces and mountain scenery of Muong Hoa Valley.
  • Explore Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai, Ta Van and Giang Ta Chai villages.
  • Meet Black Hmong, Giay and Red Dao residents with guidance from a local host.
  • Stay overnight at a community-run homestay in Ta Van Village.
  • Enjoy home-cooked meals prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Responsible Travel Notes

  • Bring a refillable water bottle and avoid single-use plastics.
  • Keep all litter with you until it can be disposed of properly.
  • Stay on established paths and never walk across planted rice terraces.
  • Ask permission before photographing people, houses or ceremonies.
  • Do not give money, sweets or disposable gifts directly to children.
  • Purchase handicrafts at a fair price directly from local makers.
  • Dress respectfully when entering homes or community spaces.
  • Avoid loud music and respect the quiet atmosphere of the villages.
  • Follow the guide’s instructions during rain, fog or changing trail conditions.
  • Use water and electricity sparingly at the homestay.

Important Local Guide Advice

Sapa’s weather can change quickly, even during the dry season. A clear morning may turn misty or rainy by the afternoon, so keep a lightweight rain jacket within easy reach. Waterproof trekking shoes with reliable grip are more useful than ordinary trainers.

Meals in the villages are fresh and filling but generally simple. Guests with allergies, vegetarian diets or other dietary requirements should notify the tour operator before departure. Mobile coverage may be limited on parts of the trail, and the homestay may provide only basic Wi-Fi.

The itinerary can be adjusted according to rainfall, trail maintenance, agricultural activity and guests’ fitness. Protecting travellers, village livelihoods and rice fields always takes priority over following a fixed path.

So glad I found Impress Travel

At first, I was just planning a trip to Hanoi, Halong Bay, and Ninh Binh for my small family.
Some close friends heard about our plans and wanted to join the trip. Eventually the group grew to be 7 families, with 25 adults and children of varying interests and expectations.
While I was excited at the prospect of touring Vietnam with good friends, I felt anxiously responsible to ascertain that everything must be well organized and everyone satisfied. This is why I am so very, very glad to have found Impress Travel. Mr. Mark responded quickly to all my inquiries, customized a wonderful trip according to the group's preferences, tirelessly worked out every detail for our 7-day trip, all at a reasonable price. Our guide, Trung, is knowledgeable, helpful, quick to respond to any need, and well-loved by everyone in the group. All my friends found this a marvelous trip, filled with beautiful memories, very much to my delight and relief!

Hanoi,Sapa,Hanoi,Danang,Hanoi 8D7N Online searching for a reliable travel agent n come across Impress Travel. Contacted

Accommodations were good especially Thang Long Espana Hotel (the Hotel Management automated upgraded us to VIP rooms. Is really unexpected). Overalled tours n places visited very well but only local guides r not good organizing the itineraries. Especially at Sapa Lao Cai and Cat Cat Villages walking tours push to the same day about 8hours for 7km (which is on 1st&2nd days arrival) so tiring. Lunch not good enough 4 so many hours of walking. In Danang Bana Hill the local guide shd arrange 2 visit Bana Hill 1st n not last coz' spend a short time n not nice photos taken due to rain (went in morning time no rain).
Overall tours, hotels, transportation, prices are strongly recommended. Especially Daniel Dang Impress Travel for welcoming and bye-bye wishes.
Daniel Dang tks from 8 of us having a wonderful time n memorable trip for 8D7N Sapa, Hanoi, Danang with Impress Travel. Meet u all again.

5days Hanoi-Tam Coc-Ninh Binh-Halong Bay

We are family of 6 from Singapore and Malaysia joining Hanoi Impress Travel on 30 October-04 November 2019. We are really impressed with the company and tour guides with their professionalism and well organised arrangement. Lily is our guide for Hanoi, Tam Coc and Ninh Binh. She is excellent and very informative. She even taking care of us until late night. We walk us from Old Quarters to the hotel and brought us to try the famous road side foods. She even helped us to pay for our order to avoid overcharge by the stall. Another guide, David BK (Swan Cruise) brought us to Halong Bay cruise. He is excellent and humorous. He handles everything throughout the trip. He served meals for guests on the cruise, organised happy hour, guiding us for Kayaking, teaching Taiji and cooking class on cruise. The cruise ship is ok and the hotel in Hanoi-Adamas Hotel is small but new and clean with reasonable ok breakfast. Anyway thank you for the wonderful arrangement.

5D/4N Hanoi-Ninh Binh- Halong Bay

I was searching for a reliable travel agent and come across Impress Travel and the many reviews of them. I booked 5D/4N, Hanoi-Trang An-Halong Bay private trip for a party of 6. I communicated with Mr Daniel Dang throughout the time until the day we arrived. Mr Daniel is very patient, helpful, and accommodating to our requirements despite many changes made to the itinerary. The price is very reasonable unlike other travel agents.
Our tour guide, Lily was very friendly and efficientknowledgeable and speak good English.
Highly recommend “Trang An Boat Tour”. The caves was spectacular and beautifully.
2D/1N Halong Bay – Swan Cruise was awesome with amazing view of the cave. Our guide Mr David was hilarious, helpful, accommodating, and everything was well organized. Beside the normal
activities of kayaking, swimming, Tai Chi, culinary lesson, we are indeed very very fortunate to have
the chance to celebrate the “Mooncake Festival” while cruising and admiring the full moon.
Spread of mooncake, dessert, sweet snack, fruits, cocktail, beer and mini dragon dance complete the celebration. Tourists from all over the world party all night long.

Although we paid for a 3-star package, the hotel (Thang Long Espana Hotel), meals and transport provided were also above average. Our gang have a very enjoyable and memorable trip in Hanoi.
Impress Travel really impressed us with their service and will engage their service in future.
P/S:- Don’t worry, Impress Travel CAN be trusted.
